Alabama routs Louisville in opener

After Alabama's 51-14 thrashing of Louisville, Taylor met with Saban near midfield for a postgame interview.

Hurts, a junior, is 26-2 as a starter, but Tagovailoa came off the bench as a true freshman to rally Alabama to victory in last season's national championship game.

"Tua played well and made some really good throws - I mean, really good throws, very accurate throws, put the ball right on guys", Saban said of his new starting quarterback. "Alright, so why do you continually get me to say something that doesn't respect one of them?" "I'm not going to, so quit asking".

The Tide's next drive ended prematurely when a Tagovailoa connection to Devonta Smith (the fellow sophomore on the receiving end of Tagovailoa's golden rainbow last January) ended in a fumble at the Louisville 17-yard line.

Saban said after Saturday's win he would continue to use both quarterbacks going forward.

"They both knew what the situation would be in the game", Saban explained.

Hurts was 5-of-9 passing for 70 yards, but Alabama only managed three points when he was in at quarterback.

Saban has been criticized by several people in the college football world for how he handled Taylor's question.

"Excellent colleague @MariaTaylor7 asked a fair QB question of Saban - which he must have misinterpreted - and he blew his stack".

The win was Alabama's 74th straight over an unranked opponent, an AP poll record.

The two touchdown passes equaled the most for an opening day starting quarterback during the Saban era at Alabama.

"He's one of those guys if you have a block you know you are going to be blocking for at least five seconds", running back Josh Jacobs said.
