Tropical Storm Beryl's remnants head toward Bahamas; forecasters may send reconnaissance plane

According to weather forecasters, Hurricane Chris is expected to gain strength throughout Wednesday before weakening Thursday as it heads out to sea and away from USA coastal areas.

Rough surf and risky rip currents will continue to impact coastal areas of the Eastern Seaboard through Friday, as the storm sends large ocean waves and makes for unsafe swimming conditions at all Tri-State Area beaches.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect.

The National Hurricane Centre confirmed this change in a tweet which said: "Chris is the second hurricane of the 2018 Atlantic season, after hurricane Beryl".

ExxonMobil removed some of its workers from offshore oil platforms Wednesday as hurricane Chris advanced toward Atlantic Canada.

The storm should start to transition into an extra-tropical but still powerful storm system later Thursday and Thursday night as it approaches the southeast coast of Newfoundland.

The service added: “There is a chance that a thunderstorm advisory will be needed for late Wednesday evening through Thursday morning.”.

"As Chris continues to move away from Florida and the United States, it will drag our moisture away, leading to lower rain chances here", News 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges said.

Chris is moving to the northeast at 10 miles per hour. This means rough surf and risky rip currents.

By the time Chris wafts pass Nova Scotia, which is farther from the projected path of the hurricane than Newfoundland, local expert surfers may be tempted to hit the waves, as the weather forecast predicts an otherwise sunny day. "Please consult products from your local weather office".

"But towards the end of Sunday and into Monday we are likely to see more changeable weather on the way".
