Rebecca Romijn joins Season 2 of ‘Star Trek: Discovery’

The spinoff, entitled Star Trek: Short Treks, is comprised of four episodes that run for 10 to 15 minutes, which are said to "feature deeper storytelling surrounding the characters and themes from Discovery and the expanding Star Trek universe" (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The newly released trailer revealed major teases to Spock's potential arrival in the series, and showrunner Alex Kurtzman essentially confirmed that the iconic character, famously played by Leonard Nimoy (and Zachary Quinto in the recent big-screen films), would be coming this year.

The new season of Star Trek: Discovery will air on CBS All Access in 2019.

There definitely is something of a Star Trek: Into Darkness vibe about Discovery, and Into Darkness was another homage to the original that still found its own way to navigate.

The inclusion of young Spock in Star Trek: Discovery has been questioned since the conclusion of Season 1 when the Discovery received a distress call from the USS Enterprise. "I'll be back. We're not telling you how". The trailer showed Sonequa Martin-Green's Michael Burnham geared up and ready for some action and also introduced a new alien character by the name of Linus. The show has gone through a behind-the-scenes change as well, as showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts were fired in the midst of production on Season 2.

After the teaser's premiere, it was announced that a new anthology series is in the works that will tie into Star Trek: Discovery. "So much of what is happening over the course of season 2 is going to test [the characters] constantly".

Marvel's Inhumans star Anson Mount is playing the role of Captain Christopher Pike in Star Trek: Discovery.

Wilson Cruz, the actor who plays Dr. Hugh Culber, revealed that he will return to the show, though he was killed off last season. Jeffrey Hunter played the character in the first pilot for Star Trek: The Original Series. "We know we owe you a lot of answers about how this show connects to canon this season", Kurtzman said, adding that answers will come, "just not the way that you expected".
