Israel to build new settler homes after deady knife attack

Israel's military on Friday searched the West Bank village of a Palestinian attacker who broke into a settlement home and stabbed three Israelis, including one who later died from his wounds.

Lieberman said the defences around Adam, also known as Geva Binyamin, would be secured and that new settlement housing units would be built.

A 58-year-old victim was said to be seriously wounded but stable.

Israel has been developing settlements in the occupied West Bank despite global condemnation.

The National Authority for the March of Return and Breaking the Siege in Gaza strip also announced the continuation of the marches that demand an end to the siege and freedom to the Palestinian people.

A week ago a Palestinian gunman shot and killed an Israeli soldier at the border, sparking a fierce wave of Israeli bombing that ratcheted up fears of another war.

The attacker was later identified by official Palestinian media as Mohammed Dar Youssef, 17, from the village of Kobar.

Israel rejects the widely held view that settlement expansion is one of the greatest obstacles to peace with the Palestinians.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said that there is no country as vital to the Palestinian cause as Egypt due to its historical and political position in the region.

"Such disgusting acts serve only those who stand in the way of peace".

On Wednesday, three Palestinians were killed in an Israeli artillery shell in the eastern part of the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, whereas Israeli forces claimed that Palestine opened fire at them and injured an Israeli soldier.

Tensions along the Gaza border increased in late March when Palestinians launched a mass protest movement.

Earlier in the day, Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which rules Gaza, promised revenge after Israeli strikes on the coastal enclave killed three of its members.

More than 150 demonstrators have been killed since March 30, when Palestinians in the Gaza Strip began holding nearly daily protests near the buffer zone.

"The West Bank is ready and able to avenge the blood of the martyrs", it said.
