North Korea pledges to destroy missile test engine site

It was not immediately clear which North Korean test sites Trump was referring to and US officials familiar with current intelligence on North Korea's nuclear and missile test sites said there was no evidence of new moves to dismantle any sites since Trump met North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12. "They're destroying their engine site", Trump said.

In addition to the pledge, North Korea had already collapsed their lone nuclear testing site in the country.

Trump said at a Cabinet meeting in the White House that "They've stopped the sending of missiles, including ballistic missiles". It could signal North Korea is willing to include a moratorium on satellite launches in addition to their missile and nuclear tests, which has been a point of contention in past agreements and derailed negotiations in the past.

The reunion program began in earnest after a historic inter-Korean summit in 2000 and they were initially held annually, but strained cross-border relations have made them rare. "North Korea has great potential for the future!" A number of allied soldiers who fought alongside the USA during the war also are missing.

At their summit, Kim and Trump signed a pledge "to work towards complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", a stock phrase favored by Pyongyang that stopped short of longstanding USA demands for North Korea to give up its atomic arsenal in a "verifiable" and "irreversible" way.

A USA official said on Wednesday that the site Trump referred to then was the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground, a major facility in the western part of the country that has been used for testing engines for long-range missiles. US officials, however, have cautioned that such actions are reversible.

"They could quickly come back should we see the dialogue momentum losing speed or North Korea not living up to its denuclearization commitment", she said.

The action was pro forma, but notable for the stern tone and list of accusations against North Korea just 10 days after the warm meeting between Trump and Kim.

The rapprochement on the Korean peninsula was triggered earlier this year when Kim chose to send athletes, cheerleaders and his sister as an envoy to the Winter Olympics in the South.

"China appears to be preparing for large-scale economic cooperation projects with the opening of additional aviation routes with North Korea".

"That's OK. That's OK".

North and South Korea agreed Friday (June 22) to resume reunions for families separated by the Korean War in August - the first such meetings since 2015 and the latest step in a remarkable diplomatic thaw on the peninsula.

The official China Daily newspaper said in an editorial on Thursday ties between the two countries have "radiated new vitality", and that Kim's visits to the agricultural and traffic control centres showed the economy was a priority for him.
