England must avoid complacency against Panama, says Gareth Southgate

Recovering from the muscular problems in his thigh sustained during England's first World Cup match against Tunisia, Dele Alli returned to training with the rest of his teammates on Saturday.

England boss Gareth Southgate insists there is "no drama" between his squad and the media around the publication of what appeared to be a team sheet showing tactics for Sunday's game with Panama.

Wilshere, 26, has been touted for stardom for many years but has seen injuries curtail his impact with Arsenal, and the England worldwide - who didn't make this summer's World Cup squad - is now a free agent after deciding not to pen a new contract.

Pictures of a note bearing a hand-written lineup carried by Holland at England's training base in Repino on Thursday suggested Rashford, rather than Sterling, will start up front alongside Harry Kane while Ruben Loftus-Cheek comes in for the injured Dele Alli in midfield.

"If Southgate persists with Sterling in this role, can he really trust him to provide the goals?", Carragher wrote in his column for the Telegraph.

'So of course our media has to decide if they want to help the team or not'.

In contrast to his 23-goal season at club level for Premier League champions Manchester City, Sterling now hasn't scored in his last 21 internationals.

England can qualify for the last 16 if they beat Panama, who must claim at least a draw to have any chance of going through, having lost 3-0 to Belgium in their opening match.

"I do think he's ready, yes, definitely, 100 per cent", Hodgson told the Daily Mail.

"He gets himself in great positions". "It might just take the time that it takes".

Southgate's assistant Steve Holland was pictured holding a list of player names during an open training session this week, which was reported as giving a possible tip-off about the starting XI to face Panama on Sunday.
