Colombia face Japan, Poland to meet Senegal — FIFA WC

The win, which was the first ever by an Asian Football Confederation (AFC) team over a South American (CONMEBOL) at the World Cup, left Twitter stunned.

The 2-1 victory over Colombia on Tuesday was another surprising result in an unpredictable tournament.

Winless in their six previous World Cup games on European soil, Japan went ahead in the opening minutes thanks to a Shinji Kagawa penalty.

Colombia striker Luis Muriel believes his team have the talent to go further in the World Cup in Russian Federation than the side of four years ago who reached the quarter-finals in Brazil. Kagawa then converted from the spot.

Later, Colombia's Juan Quintero's also hit the net and and equalised the score before the interval.

"He played well in Germany this season", Honda said of the Werder Bremen forward.

The teams met at the last world Cup.

Japan has not had the best of preparations for the World Cup in Russian Federation, and news of an natural disaster back home added to their worries on Monday, while a false hotel alarm a day before their opener against Colombia did little to help settle the team.

"There are some players from Colombia who have matured in the last four years, so I think they are now a tougher opponent", said Hasebe.

Japan were relentless in the second half, dominating much of the game which eventually paid dividends.

Sanchez did not speak to reporters after the match.

Meanwhile, Serbia's Aleksandar Kolarov had a good day in Samara: he scored a magnificent World Cup goal and was presented with a Lada by the governor. "However, it is just one win, three points".

Also in Group H are Senegal and Poland, who meet in Moscow today.

"We can not fall in the trap of feeling overconfident in this match", Colombia midfielder Abel Aguilar said.

"We have enough players for replacement". Japanese princess Takamado attended the match.

The first red card of the tournament came within four minutes of the start when Colombian defender Carlos Sanchez pulled off a spectacular save his keeper would have been proud of.

Okazaki did get in the game, but not until the 85th minute.

James, 26, netted six goals and created four assists to help Colombia qualify for Russian Federation, while midfielder Wilmar Barrios is also battling to be fit. "We will try our best to make a good World Cup for ourselves". "They feel protected in certain situations, so our work in the middle is vital to provide balance to the team".
