Belgium coach Martinez happy with win against Panama

An upward curve continued last summer as he made his way to Old Trafford, before recording 27 goals in his debut campaign for the Red Devils , but Lukaku has accused many of those back in Belgium of failing to offer him the expected level of support.

Roberto Martinez's side failed to break down the minnows in the opening 45 minutes and only opened their account in the 47th minute thanks to a wonderful volley from Dries Mertens.

Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard both organized the play well in the second half, recording a dish for Lukaku apiece, while Dries Mertens scored a lovely right-foot volley at the start of the second half.

Lukaku endured a tough upbringing, but that only served to make him all the more determined to fulfil his dreams of becoming a footballer.

"Against Tunisia, I expect we'll do more when we have the ball, in passing, making the right choices, playing at a higher tempo", Degryse said.

This is his second World Cup, having scored twice for Belgium in the 2014 tournament.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola may consider a positional change for Kevin de Bruyne. I remember I had holes in my shoes in 2002.

Lukaku emphasises his pride at representing his country, despite the critics, and his ambition to become a legend. "We saw in the second half when we play together we can score goals". I grew up in Antwerp, and Liege and Brussels. "I have to play football in a different way than you, but you have this big strength, the talent - you have everything'". That was my goal.

"I watch Premier League football every week".

"I'm standing with the legend, in the flesh, and he's telling me all about how to run into space like he used to do".

Lukaku also writes about his delight at being coached by former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry, one of Martinez's assistants.

The striker's words came before the nation's first match against Panama and it's fair to say he won't even have any critics after how he performed.

"We're a complete team", the Tottenham defender said.
