Mr. Ripert tried to reach Mr. Bourdain on his cellphone, according to hotel staff. Asia Argento, his girlfriend, also released a statement saying how sad she had been to hear the news.

Instead of joining the cruel chorus, Bourdain poured his support and money into then 88-year-old. He attended the Culinary Institute of America before working at New York City restaurants including the Supper Club, One Fifth Avenue and Ed Sullivan's. Jason Wang, CEO of Xi'an Famous Foods in NY, planned to donate profits at all its locations on Friday to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Chef Wan said he was blessed at having the opportunity to have met Bourdain and thanked him for sharing his culinary talent with the world.

"I'm a pretty lucky man".

The celebratory mood at the Moschino's fashion show tinged with sadness over recent deaths of designer Kate Spade and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.

Master butcher Christine Speisser told People magazine that the crew had set up to film at an outdoor market in nearby Strasbourg.

Ruth Carhuff recalled Bourdain's interview with Iranian-American journalist Jason Rezaian on "Parts Unknown".

"I gave up on that".

The TV personality died at aged 61. "And he simply replied, 'I'm just calling out good food like it is, that's all, '" Wang wrote.
