Three militants, four civilians killed in Kashmir

The security forces' operation carried out on Saturday morning against two holed-up terrorists continues, as one civilian killed after being hit by a vehicle at the spot of clashes.

Three militants were killed on the outskirts of Srinagar, police said.

The three men believed to be militants died in a shootout after government forces surrounded a densely populated neighbourhood in the old part of the city, director general of police Shesh Paul Vaid said.

Earlier, as soon as gunshots were heard, people in the nearby areas came out of their houses and tried to disrupt the operation and threw stones at security forces.

He was rushed to SMHS hospital where he was declared brought dead. Three photojournalists were said to have been injured in the chaos at the hospital.

A police spokesman said the Srinagar police along with CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chhatabal area in Safakadal, Srinagar, following credible leads. While the searches were intensified, the hiding terrorists fired upon the joint search party.

Giving further details, Ravideep Sahi, IG CRPF told ANI, "3 terrorists have been killed, 3 security personnel have been injured".

CRPF spokesperson Rajesh Yadav said that an assistant commandant of the force was hit in his toe during the encounter at Chattabal.

Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar to prevent people from sharing information about the situation in Chattabal.

In another separate incident of terrorism, two bodies have also been recovered from Bandipora district's Shahgund Hajin area.

Similarly, on Friday also terrorists shot dead a civilian and injured his wife in north Kashmir's Sopore town. It added that the bullet-riddled corpses of the victims were found by the locals near a mosque in the area's Raheem Dar Mohalla.
