KKR vs CSK: CSK wilts under Gill and Karthik's assault

Dinesh Karthik walked into the when 81 runs were needed off 50 balls and what transpired later was a run fest as Karthik and Gill were dealing mainly in four and sixes. Against Kolkata, they were sitting pretty at 90 for 1 at the halfway mark but lost three wickets in the next 28 balls to lose their way, with the last ten overs fetching only 87 runs. Playing at home, the Kolkata Knightriders had a flawless chase on a completely flat track to win their first match of the tournament and with that move to the third place in the table. Dhoni's innings was laced with four sixes and one four.

Dhoni finished proceedings with a four off Piyush Chawla (2/35) in the last ball of the final over but lacked that flourish which he has shown in his previous few innings.

All of 18 years of age, the Firozpur-born Gill - nicknamed by cricket observers as "Junior Kohli" as his batting style reminds of contemporary great Virat Kohli - got noticed during the U-19 world cup when he played the shot-arm jab as effectively as Kohli to hit sixes at will.

Today match of IPL t20 KKR v CSK will start at 8 pm IST after toss have taken place at 7:30 pm IST.

The atmosphere was electric inside the stadium as well as outside, with much of the fanfare around the CSK side and their iconic skipper Dhoni. With 260 runs at 32.5 it's been far from a disastrous tournament so far for Lynn, but with only two fifties from his nine matches he'd be eager to capitalise on his clean striking with some more runs in the back-end of the tournament. Despite the match being played in Eden Gardens, the chants of Dhoni-Dhoni were evident from the stands.

CSK would reach 57 for 1 after the first first six overs but looked like they would get up to a big target when Suresh Raina (31) joined Watson (36) to guide them to 91 before the latter was caught by Shivam Mavi off the bowling of Sunil Narine.

Chawla ended the 48-run opening partnership by getting rid of Du Plessis with a googly that disturbed his stumps.

At the end of six overs, CSK were 57/1.

Raina was quick to follow in the next over.

He came to the crease with Chennai 101-3, and their situation worsened when Ambati Rayudu (21) was bowled by Narine to leave them on 119-4.

"We knew the kind of fielding we would come up with after the team was picked".
