Mets Demote Struggling Matt Harvey To Bullpen

Harvey, 29, is coming off a start against the Atlanta Braves that saw him yield six earned runs in just four innings. First, Harvey's numbers justify this move. "We'll have to wait and see".

The handling of Harvey was rsquo; manager & clearly one of Callaway & rsquo; s first tests whilst the Mets. He allowed six runs in his latest start, a 12-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves. NY is 2-2 in those four games and 12-3 in its other 15 games this season.

Harvey now sports a 6.00 ERA through four starts this season. After originally hoping to go through rehab for the injury, he opted for Tommy John surgery and would miss the entire 2014 season.

Harvey did try to make a case for staying in the rotation when he met with team officials, but a decision had already been reached.

Even with the victory over the Phillies, Teheran is just 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

The next time Matt Harvey takes the mound, he'll do so as a reliever. In fact, he recognizes why the Mets have made this decision.

In the meantime, the Mets are off to a 14-5 start and now lead the NL East. He plummeted from great in 2015 to lousy in 2016 and hasn't looked back. "I couldn't feel the ball.'" Four days later, he opted to undergo season-ending surgery after tests showed that he had symptoms of thoracic outlet syndrome.

Vargas was acquired as a free agent this offseason, but started the season on the DL with a hand injury. "I think we can help him utilize his aggressiveness, his ability to use his pitches the right way to get outs, and hopefully that will carry over to when he starts again". However, while Harvey admits to being upset at his move to the bullpen, he appears motivated to work his way back into the rotation. Teheran is 8-5 with a 2.58 ERA, a 1.082 WHIP, 47 walks and 91 strikeouts over 122 innings of action.

Ricco said sending Harvey to the minor leagues was not an option because the Mets still felt Harvey could help the team. He started the season 0-6 with a 7.46 ERA and was demoted to Triple-A.

Harvey had a solid first start, but it's been downhill from there for the artist formerly known as The Dark Knight.

Now with four starts under his belt, Harvey is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA and the clear weak link in the Mets rotation, which is a bit of an accomplishment considering Steven Matz is 1-1 with a 4.42 ERA of his own while looking overwhelmingly mediocre at best. "We have a lot of confidence that we can get Matt back to where he needs to be, and this is the first step in that".
