Detroit Lions 2018 preseason schedule announced

While the schedule of games was announced by the NFL Wednesday, specific times and dates for the first three games won't be set until later.

The Seahawks finished last season 9-7, good enough for second place in the NFC West Division, though they did not qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Detroit leads the preseason series with a record of 25-20-1. The Hall of Fame Game will air at 8 p.m. on NBC and the Ravens' Week 3 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts will air at 8 p.m. on ESPN. Two Ravens' games (Bears and Colts) will appear in front of a nationally-televised audience.

The Vikings haven't played a preseason contest in the Mile High City since September 3, 1987. The Patriots hosted the Philadelphia Eagles for joint practices also during 2014 in front of huge crowds on the Gillette practice fields. Those joint sessions nearly certainly will be held in the shadows of Gillette Stadium in Foxboro this year, since the Patriots are hosting their first two preseason games.

In Week three of the preseason, which is always the most important game out of the four, the Dolphins will host the Ravens (Aug.23-26) in a rematch of Miami's most embarrassing loss of the 2017 season. Jay Gruden is still Washington's head coach from that time, so it seems probable New England and the Redskins will once again practice with each other this summer.

The Panthers also will travel to the Steelers in the regular season, marking the 21st time Carolina has faced a team in the regular season after facing the same team in the preseason. In the preseason home opener, the Titans should play their starters more than they did in Green Bay, and it will be Vrabel's first home contest. Including the regular season, it will be the fourth meeting between the two teams since 2013.

The Ravens will close out the preseason with a Week 3 road game against the Miami Dolphins - the date has yet to be determined - before welcoming the Washington Redskins to M&T Bank Stadium on August 30.
