North Korea agrees to hold summit preparation talks on Mar 29

Seoul has notified Pyongyang via a border communication channel, of its proposal for talks next Thursday on the northern side of the border truce village of Panmunjom, saying the South's three-member delegation will be led by Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon.

The officials will discuss the agenda for the meeting between President Moon Jae-in of South Korea and Kim Jong-un, the North's leader, the South's Unification Ministry said in a statement.

Moon proposed a summit between the U.S., South Korea and North Korea earlier this week to be held following the separate talks between the North and South, and then Kim and Trump.

North Korea's state media say the country's moves to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula are evidence of its confidence and national strength, not a sign of weakness. The summit also comes ahead of the face-to-face meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and the North's Kim that is expected to take place by the end of May to work out a deal to end the North's nuclear weapons' deal.

In what could be seen as a gesture of goodwill leading up to anticipated talks between the US and North Korea, an annual joint military exercise between American and South Korean military forces - which has been a long-time source of tension for the Hermit Kingdom - has been shortened by a full month.

The North Korean leader, Kim reportedly understands that the drill needs to be continued. However, if we closely examine the Trump's approach towards North Korea and put the things together, it can be observed that Trump's decision to talk with Kim is not an isolated and spontaneous act. But there had been no official word from Pyongyang.

This year's start delay was due to the Winter Olympics being held in South Korea.

Despite a flurry of diplomatic efforts, the date and location of the latter summit - which would be the first evern between a sitting Americans president and a North Korean leader - remains undecided. The stronger the United States pressure, the stronger the DPRK (North Korea)...

Tak Hyun-min, a South Korean presidential aide who completed a three-day trip to North Korea to arrange the events, told reporters in Beijing on Saturday that it was agreed that the South Korean artists would hold a concert in Pyongyang on April 1 and follow with a joint performance with North Korean artists on April 3.
