Michigan State fans shocked at shooting woes in crushing upset to Syracuse

This is a matchup that hasn't gone well for Michigan State either.

(97.1 The Ticket) Miles Bridges wasn't kidding when he said he planned to elevate his game in the NCAA Tournament. 10 of them came in concession where Bridges did not need any help to send Bucknell home. If Michigan State can get past the Orange, it will face a 2-seeded Duke team which beat the Spartans earlier in the season during the Champions Classic. Syracuse's zone defense may not allow for much inside but it will be important for Michigan State to establish a presence there.

"We're going to play the way we play", Boeheim said. Langford had scored in double figures just one time in the previous seven games but he played confidently against Bucknell.

Michigan State will use up to 10 players in its rotation, and that could prove especially important inside.

On a side note, Thomas was terrific, in the first half, especially. He put on a show in the first half, scoring 20 points and making all three of his shots beyond the 3-point arc. Syracuse reached 18-0 before suffering six losses in eight games. The Spartans take a 25-22 lead into the break. "I thought we were there to contest a lot".

Unfortunately for Thomas and the Bison, his hot-hand could not be sustained for 40 minutes and he did not have much help.

The Orange had to deal with guard Frank Howard (13 points) fouling out with over six minutes left in the game.

Lyles finished with 23 of his points in the second half and Joe Sherburne finished with 14 points. The extra points made a huge difference in a game where the lead went back and forth throughout, with neither team able to gain a major lead over the other.

The 5-12 line is usually one of the top spots for March Madness upsets, but Clemson (24-9) shot 56 percent from the field while advancing out of the first round for the first time since 1997.

Michigan State opened up tournament play on Friday with an opening round 82-78 victory over Bucknell. Two minutes later he hit another, this time to re-gain the lead for his team at 29-28.

While McQuaid's proved to a big momentum-swinging shot for Michigan State heading into halftime, the three-pointer made by Jordan Poole for Michigan just over 12 hours ago is the bigger shot between the two, when it comes down to importance. I will take the Orange to give the Spartans problems again.

" I was not anxious about him being hurt", said Izzo. Haarms is the only big man now on the Purdue roster that played any kind of meaningful minutes this season.

According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Michigan State is favored in this game, as the Spartans are getting odds of -9 points against Syracuse. Times and television networks have not yet been announced.
