Hearthstone: The Witchwood Expansion Announced, Introducing New Monster Hunt Mode

We have a more detailed breakdown of the new Hearthstone cards here. Clever plays can find ways around the Battlecry, though, so making a new keyword like Rush should allow the card designers some more flexibility. The expansion is set to release sometime between now and the end of April, so players won't have to wait long to get their hands on these new cards.

The Witchwood is now available for pre-purchase on Blizzard's store for $49.99 and comes with 70 decks filled with new cards. In other words, these will enable new gimmicky decks that may or may not pan out, but people similarly underestimated cards like Razakus that ended up dominating the meta for awhile.

Genn Greymane: If your deck has only even-cost cards at the start of the game, your starting Hero Power costs one mana. "They can not attack heroes until the turn after they enter play, however". The second is Rush, which works similar to the existing Charge mechanic but disallows attacks toward the opposing Hero on their opening turn.

For those that have been waiting for a new mode, you'll be getting it with Witchwood as well. Worgen cards swap attack and health each turn they're in your hand, so you can hold onto them at different times for different results. Once the expansion is released, players will have two weeks to arm themselves before embarking on Monster Hunts-the thrilling new single-player Hearthstone experience that will send players deep into The Witchwood to stamp out the evils that lurk within.

As usual, Blizzard has opened pre-purchases of a large card bundle with an exclusive card back for those who purchase it.

In a humorous announcement trailer posted earlier today, the developers of the beloved card game, Hearthstone, teased a new expansion: The Witchwood! Baku the Mooneater-Legendary minion, 7/8, 9-mana cost- rewards odd-cost decks with an upgraded Hero Power (Blizzard did not offer specifics on upgraded Hero Powers, though this may function like a previous Legendary, Justicar Trueheart). Also as usual, logging in near launch will get you some freebies: three packs plus one random Class Legendary.
