Confirmed: Tottenham striker Harry Kane ruled out of Chelsea game

Harry Kane could make a shock return for Tottenham on Sunday as Mauricio Pochettino came out fighting in his defence of Dele Alli. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Andreas Christensen will both need to be assessed before the game and could be big absentees for such a pivotal match. He was forced to miss England's two global friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy and was initially expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks.

He was an unused substitute for the 1-1 draw with Italy at Wembley, and Pochettino knows the 21-year-old may need some encouragement after being overlooked by England boss Gareth Southgate, seemingly jeopardising his prospects of a starting role at the World Cup.

However, the Belgian global has worked on his fitness during the worldwide break and should be in contention to face Chelsea this weekend but Pochettino says he hasn't decided on his starting eleven just yet.

"We need to assess him, he is very positive and is doing very well, every day he is improving", the Argentine added.

"I can not say no, but I can not say yes". I can not give opinions about a context that I wasn't there [for].

"But the most important [thing] is that we are so positive about his recovery, and we are doing fantastic, and we are so happy", Pochettino said.

I don't know, I wasn't in the training sessions with the national team. "It's there but it's not going to help, first of all Chelsea and then us... to win against Chelsea would be fantastic for everyone but it will be a tough game, they are a good team".

Is Toby Alderweireld back in contention for Sunday?

"Of course there is still a lot of games to play, this is not a final, this is not a decisive game, but always it is important for your confidence, your motivation".

"No, it's not a point to focus for us".
