Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo's "lovely gesture", after he turned down the chance to complete his hat-trick, by giving a penalty to Karim Benzema.

Prior to the penalty goal, Benzema had only scored three goals, and Ronaldo's act does not surprise Navas.

"Cristiano Ronaldo showed this with his attractive gesture to let Benzema take the penalty". He deserved a goal because he had a very good game.

"He [Ronaldo] had opportunities, he scored twice".

"Football is a team game and that was a nice gesture, offering it to Karim". The most important thing is the atmosphere in the dressing room.

"Hola, madridistas. We are very happy about this victory here at the Bernabéu with you guys".

Real are third in the standings on 51 points, 11 behind leaders Barcelona and four from Atletico, who can widen the gap back to seven when they visit Sevilla on Sunday. "The game against PSG returned their confidence, which had been missing before".

Chelsea are reluctant to let the Belgian leave without a fight, but they could allow him to depart should Asensio move in the opposite direction.

The goals were Aspas' 16th and Gomez's 13th in the league.

Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema also found themselves on the scoresheet, to further enhance the importance of Real Madrid's current winning run, highlighting that they may well be back to their best. The French striker then stole the ball and laid off for Bale to make it 2-0 in the first minute of the second half. Just like Benzema, Bale showed more enthusiasm yesterday than he had in recent games, in which he looked a little disinterested.

Alaves should have been behind in the 18th minute when Mateo Kovacic and Theo Hernandez orchestrated a lightning counter-attack, but the much-maligned Benzema lost his footing to skew wastefully wide and draw whistles from a section of the Madrid faithful.

Benzema had snapped a run of almost three months without a league goal by scoring against Real Betis last weekend and although he squandered a couple of chances he was one of Real's best performers in what was a fifth consecutive win in all competitions for Zidane's side.
