Vikings hire Eagles QB coach as offensive coordinator

Offensive coordinator Frank Reich is scheduled to interview to become head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo will interview with the Minnesota Vikings to become offensive coordinator.

But thanks to the relentless work done by Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo each week, Wentz was a 2017 MVP candidate right up until he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 14.

Pro Football Writer - MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Vikings have hired Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo as their offensive coordinator.

Shurmur was hired as head coach of the New York Giants on January 22. The 39-year-old DeFilippo spent two seasons with the Eagles after one year as offensive coordinator in Cleveland.

DeFilippo's first interview with the organization was today.

"He has a track record of success and has proven to be a great teacher", Zimmer added.

As we noted back in December, DeFilippo was as good as gone, as his work with Carson Wentz and the Raiders' David Carr has been widely recognized around the league. Foles won Super Bowl MVP.

Under his direction with the Browns, QB Josh McCown finished with a 93.3 quarterback rating, the fifth-highest mark in franchise history, while TE Gary Barnidge emerged as a threat in the passing game, setting career highs in receptions (79 - third among NFL tight ends), receiving yards (1,043 - fourth among NFL tight ends) and receiving touchdowns (nine - fourth among NFL tight ends). In those two games, Foles completed 71 percent of his passes and threw six touchdowns against only one interception. General manager Rick Spielman said last week that the next OC will play a role in determining which quarterback will lead the Vikings next season. Chargers wide receiver coach Nick Sirianni worked as the quarterbacks coach in San Diego from 2013 to '15 when Reich was the offensive coordinator, and Chiefs assistant offensive line coach Corey Matthaei was an assistant quarterbacks coach under Pederson in Kansas City in 2015.

When Wentz went down, many thought the Eagles season to be lost.
