According to astrologists, a total lunar eclipse or blood moon occurs when the moon passes through the earth's shadow blocking out the light from the sun.

Five-year-old Arjun Krishna said that his grandmother had brought him there to see "chanda mama" who had turned red in colour.

The Moon, which goes around the Earth in an elliptical orbit, gets closest to the Earth at one point - known as perigee.

The eclipse was visible best in the western half of the USA and Canada Wednesday morning, and across the Pacific into Asia as the moon rose Wednesday night into Thursday. "This isn't something that happens during every eclipse", said Pramod Galgali, the planetarium director. "It's wonderful to be at this precious event and to have been able to see the moon looking so lovely", said Mayumi Kimura, a visitor. "But for us today, its just more fun to come look at it". The Moon's impact is considerably greater than that of the Sun because it is so close to the Earth.

During deep sleep on the night of a full moon, people produce an increased level of a hormone called leptin, which helps to feel full.

In Malaysia, the eclipse phase of the moon began at 7.48 pm until 11.11 pm while the total lunar eclipse started at 8.51 pm before reaching its maximum phase at 9.29 pm and ends at 10.07 pm. Its secretary, Abdullah Hassan said three special telescopes were made available for the public to observe the eclipse. He's deputy project scientist for NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, circling the moon since 2009.

There are 12-13 full moons each year - but only 3-4 of them are classed as a supermoon. (Patrick Connolly Las Vegas Review-Journal) partially eclipsed super blue blood moon is seen from Vivaldi Park on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018, in Henderson.
