Kabul hosts army chiefs for anti-terror talks

Those attending were said to include CENTCOM chief General Joseph Votel, General John Nicholson, commander of USA forces in Afghanistan, and Pakistan's chief of army staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa. "Regions develop as a whole, not individual countries", Gen Qamar said in what appears to be a statement linked to the United States new strategy that sought greater role for India in the region.

The conference concluded with the agreement to continue cooperation for regional peace and stability. John Nicholson and CENTCOM head Gen. Joseph Votel would also attend the meeting, but official sources did not comment their participation.

According to ISPR, Army Chief told that there are no terrorist sanctuaries left on the Pakistani soil. The army chief said that collaborative approach and persistence was the answer to all challenges, for which Pakistan was willing to play its part.

Talks at the Kabul conference were also expected to touch upon narcotics trade in the region.

Bajwa reiterated that the path to regional peace and stability passes through Afghanistan. He signaled that residual signatures of terrorists take advantage of the 2.7 million Afghan refugees and absence of effective border security coordination to launch attacks.

In addition, the Presidential Palace said President Ashraf Ghani met with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan's army chiefs and said their visit to Afghanistan will open a new era for cooperation in the military sector between the three countries.

Afghan officials had said that the delegation handed over to Islamabad "undeniable" evidence which claimed that the spate of deadly attacks in Afghanistan were allegedly planned in Pakistan.

Pakistan forces are now involved in fencing its long and mostly porous border with Afghanistan to stop the illegal cross-border movement of the militants.
