Twin Cities doesn't make the cut for new Amazon HQ

Amazon Inc. rejected several CT proposals for its second headquarters, announcing Thursday the selection of 20 jurisdictions as finalists in the online retailer's closely-watched competition.

The Seattle-based company has announced that it will spend $5 billion to build a second heaquarters that will employ 5,000 people.

Amazon reviewed 238 proposals from across the U.S., Canada, and Mexicoto host HQ2, the company's second headquarters in North America. Business Council of Westchester officials say they will continue to make sure Amazon knows why Westchester would be the best fit.

The list reveals little in terms of geographic preferences, with finalists on both coasts and the heartland.

Amazon released its list of cities it is considering for a new headquarters and CT is not among the selections. "Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough - all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity", said Holly Sullivan, Amazon Public Policy, in a statement.

The race for Amazon is over, at least for the Twin Cities.

The tantalizing prospect of so many high-paying jobs delivered an avalanche of proposals from around the country.

The cities or regions that remain on Amazon's list are Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Montgomery County, Md., Nashville, Newark, New York City, northern Virginia, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Toronto, and Washington. Further reports also indicate which city will Amazon's HQ2 will likely stand on.
