Trump Plans to Attend the World Economic Forum in Davos

She added that Trump "looks forward to promoting his policies to strengthen American businesses, American industries, and American workers".

Davos is scheduled to be held January 23-26.

In a statement, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said Trump was looking forward to attending the annual gatheringexternal link of world leaders and business executives in the mountain resort in southeast Switzerland.

Also in USA politics, 85-year-old pardoned former Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio announced he will run for Jeff Flake's senate seat. Yet a White House statement indicated Trump would not hesitate to bring his nationalist message to the assemblage of globalists. Since becoming president, Trump has withdrawn from multinational trade agreements with Pacific Rim allies and Europeans and threatened to pull out of the North American Free Trade Agreement if talks with Mexico and Canada don't yield significant changes.

In a separate statement, Klaus Schwab, the founder of the forum, said Trump would offer a "direct perspective" on the U.S.'s priorities and that the president would be accompanied by key Cabinet ministers and US lawmakers.

Clinton first attended the event in 2000, the forum's 30th anniversary.

Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama did not attend while in office.

Founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, a German economics professor, the forum has become an annual conference that includes parties, dinners and panel discussions, largely about world social and economic trends.
