Pleasing to beat Team India in 'Indian' conditions: Du Plessis

India suffered a 135-run drubbing at the hands of South Africa in the second cricket Test on the fifth day today to lose the three-match series 0-2. He bowled his heart out in the first innings but was unfortunate to get only one wicket.

South Africa are still No 2, but they are closing the gap on the Indians.

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis praised Ngidi, who won the Man-of-the-match award.

Kohli hasn't criticized any individual players in public. We need to be hard on ourselves. How much does this loss hurt that despite having that formula you could perhaps not get the best XI out and win this match?

He fell early and so did Pujara, which left Vijay and the skipper Virat Kohli to do the fix job. "You tell me the best eleven and we will play it", Kohli had countered this writer. But you make one decision and you back it. In over 30 Tests that you have been captain, you have changed your starting line-up in each and every Test you have played?

"Virat's knock in the first innings was very, very good".

Kohli: I'm saying that we don't decide XI according to the results.

"Whoever plays should be good enough to go out there and do the job for the team".

KL Rahul was Ngidi 's first victim in the second innings when the Karnataka batsman played a disgusting shot.

"You can't pinpoint and say this is the best XI".

"The (favourite) moment for me I think was the captain's (Kohli) wicket. So, I certainly don't bend towards that opinion at all".

The win helped banish memories of the 3-0 loss in India in 2015-16 on spin-friendly pitches. Two losses. How many draws? "They showed more character than us".

"We should try to fight it out".

Eventually, he regained some composure to say: "I'm here to answer your questions, not to fight with you". We had the best XI there. With the defeat, India's unbeaten streak of 9-series win came to an end.

Not just that, he also took a dig asking about the winning patterns of SA in India.

. The South African team has too many swift fielders to exploit the half-chances.

Given India's history against debutant pacers, and the fact that second Test was at his home ground, the conditions looked ideal for Ngidi to deliver a memorable performance. "We have come here to play", Kohli said. "That's something I will be taking up and making sure we can improve".

What signal do you give to a hard working bowler by sidelining him after his stellar performance in the first match?

India have not won a Test series in South Africa or Australia, where they tour later in the year, ever.

Asked about the series win against the No. 1 ranked Test side in the world, du Plessis said, "Extremely special".

AB de Villiers during the South African national cricket team training session at PPC Newlands on January 02, 2017 in Cape Town, South Africa. We have that opportunity and we sense it. "Now I've sort of found my feet and I know which path I'm going down as a cricketer".

But how do you just take stock in South Africa and expect to bounce back?

Hardik Pandya (6) was caught by De Kock off Ngidi, before the seamer also induced an edge from Ravichandran Ashwin (3) to the wicketkeeper to leave India reeling at 87 for seven. Ngidi's two-wicket burst late on Day 4 included the big wicket of Kohli, who was out lbw for 4.
