Patriots down Jets to secure home field advantage in playoffs

Dion Lewis carried the brunt of the Patriots offense, rushing 26 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. That clinched the conference's No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Brady completed less than 50 percent of his passes and tight end Rob Gronkowski did not have a catch in the game.

The New York Jets should be no different. Still, New York had a mere 40 yards on the ground and Bryce Petty had just 232 yards through the air. NY was 0 for 12 on third down and 0 for 1 in its lone trip into the red zone. They had a playoff games that was colder - a divisional round game against the Tennessee Titans on January 10, 2004, when it was 4 degrees with a wind chill that made it feel like minus 10.

The Jets defense settled down after that, though.

The following Patriots are inactive for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Jets: running back Mike Gillislee, running back Rex Burkhead, defensive tackle Alan Branch, running back James White, wide receiver Chris Hogan, linebacker David Harris and offensive lineman Cole Croston.

The Patriots got the ball back with 2:01 left in the first half and put together a patented pre-halftime touchdown drive that finished with Brady finding Lewis for another 5-yard touchdown and a 21-3 halftime lead.

Then just before halftime, NY cornerback Juston Burris was flagged for defensive holding on a Patriots' third-down pass attempt.

The game, another one played in freezing weather in Philadelphia, was scoreless through three quarters before Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott hit Brice Butler with a 12-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth.

The Patriots stretched the lead to 24-3 in the third quarter on a Stephen Gostkowski field goal.
