Overwatch League Partners With Twitch In Two-Year Broadcast Deal

The city-based league will pull together teams from all over the globe and have them duke it out to see who is truly the best Overwatch team in the world.

Overwatch League skins are now available on Overwatch's live server. Team-branded skins were announced a year ago on December 4.

Considering that these skins do little other than swap the color palettes of Overwatch's heroes for the recognizable colors of each team, $4.99 is a steep asking price.

Blizzard revealed that skins will also be available to purchase in bundles, however, they've not shared anymore information on what they will cost for the time being.

In July, Activision Blizzard announced an e-sports league for the game that it hopes could eventually prove more lucrative than the UK's football Premier League.

However, the money you pay won't be going to Blizzard, but instead will be used to fund the actual teams.

It's the opening week of Overwatch League-the first matches start tomorrow on Twitch-and as such Blizzard has added team skins for every character.

The agreement names Twitch as the exclusive third-party digital provider for OWL regular season, playoff and championship matches worldwide, excluding China, for the next two years.

Activision Blizzard said the deal was great "for our growing global fan base".

The deal will also feature a number of in-game item exclusives and rewards for fans using the Twitch platform.

The first match of the inaugural season of Overwatch is set for 4:00 pm PST to catch the kids on the West Coast as they get out of school, kids on the East Coast as they finish dinner, and kids in Asia as they get up in the morning. Honours that comes with a whole lot of green to the tune of $125 000 for the winners of each of the season's four five-week long stages, with a final overall Overwatch League Champion prize of a cool $1 million.

For the inaugural season, all games will take place at Blizzard Arena Los Angeles, a state-of-the-art live-event venue in Burbank, California, custom-renovated for Blizzard Entertainment esports events. "We look forward to offering their pioneering style of league play to a large and passionate fanbase that will be able to bond over not only their favorite plays, but hometown pride".
