In the midst of the final of Rocket tri-nation series- 2018, Bangladesh have had to endure an unfortunate news of losing undoubtedly the best performer of the team all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for a time span of around two weeks.

Mahmudullah played the leading role for his side on Saturday with the bat, but his 76 was never likely to be a winning knock as the Tigers capitulated to 142 all out, chasing 222 for victory.

Sri Lanka spinner Akila Dananjaya got the important breakthrough as Mushfiqur went for 22, as the Tigers were 80/4 after 22.4 overs.

His last Test cap was earned against Sri Lanka in February 2014, when he only bowled four overs after sustaining a hamstring injury on the opening day.

Sri Lanka opener Upul Tharanga's 56 had earlier helped the visitors score a modest 221 all out from their 50 overs, backed up by 45 from captain Dinesh Chandimal and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella's 42.

There was pressure to increase the run-rate to which Tharanga finally capitulated.

Bangladesh had already qualified for the final on the back of their three consecutive wins in the tournament.

Test captain Shakib was subsequently ruled out of the first five-day match against Sri Lanka, which begins on Wednesday.
