Diocese hosts Martin Luther King celebration

Colorado Democratic lawmakers - against the backdrop of a statehouse resolution honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. - denounced President Donald Trump on Friday for as "shithole countries", saying such comments run counter to everything the civil rights icon stood for.

But remember, too, that King was not one to look back, but focus on the challenges ahead. "People feel like he is their mentor even in his death, their guide", said Bernice King. "His real message, the one he fought and died for is just as powerful today as it was 50 years ago".

Before signing the King proclamation Friday, Trump said: "We celebrate Dr. King for standing up for the self-evident truth Americans hold so dear, that no matter the color of our skin, or the place of our birth we are all created equal by God".

A number of school districts observe both the Martin Luther King Jr. "With this day set aside to formally recognize Dr. King's enormous impact and legacy, I encourage us all reflect, and take action - let's continue to live out the spirit of Dr. King's words, and work to achieve his dreams in all our communities". Center for Nonviolent Social Change, the national King holiday, and the King monument on the National Mall.

Pastor Jackson said something else Dr. King said to him that still resonates. Trump was asked by April Ryan, Washington bureau chief for American Urban Radio, as he turned to leave the ceremony honoring the civil rights leader.

She would prove unwavering in the face of violence, constant death threats, and his assassination in 1968. "We need to start teaching all nationalities about their people, and where they come from".

But King was much more than a dreamer -and to exclusively define him as one is to sanitize and neuter his legacy. Day is celebrated in the United States on Monday January 15, 2018.

"This brings together several churches, youth groups and organizations to celebrate King's life and his birthday", said Otero County NAACP President Rev. Warren Robinson. That service can be seen on FOX 5 Atlanta.
