"He had trauma to the brain, swelling on the brain, and a cracked eye socket in three different places", said the teen's father, Ulysses Wilkerson Jr. The family is adamant about the community staying engaged to help seek justice for their 17-year-old son.

Buzzfeed reports that police in Troy exited a vehicle after seeing Wilkerson walking near a business that was closed.

Numerous 61,000 shares of the Facebook post reflected outrage.

TROY - An Alabama prosecutor says police body cameras recorded the arrest of a teenager whose family says he was severely beaten by officers. A witness, Brittany Patterson, told WKRG, "You could see the swelling of his face you could tell he had a lot of bleeding". After seeing the scene, Patterson said she thought, "I hope they are not beating him".

When we first brought you the story, we had not heard from Troy Police at that point. He is waiting for the State Bureau of Investigation to finish its probe before commenting further. Our sister station WDHN can confirm that the charges against Wilkerson were not dropped as we were told by his father. "They said he was charged with obstruction of justice", Wilkerson Jr. said.

Facebook/Sadot WilkersonSadot Wilkerson posted this photo to Facebook, claiming it shows one of the officers who beat up his son. Now, his family and attorneys want to know exactly why his injuries were necessary and called for a look at the officers' body cameras or surrounding surveillance footage.

The charges are Obstructing Governmental Operations and Resisting Arrest, both misdemeanors. "City of Troy Police Chief Randall Barr requested the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) conduct an independent investigation into the use of force by his officers".

Wilkerson was released from UAB Hospital in Birmingham, but remains under medical observation and could possibly undergo surgery after more swelling goes down.
