Want reservation for women: Rahul Gandhi

Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Gandhi added that the Prime Minister had remained silent on allegations against BJP president Amit Shah's son Jay Shah and the alleged irregularities in the Rafale fighter jet deal.

The Congress leader also took on those who raised eyebrows over his visits to temples in Gujarat, wondering if it was wrong to pray for the well-being of people of the state. "PM Modi misused the FICCI platform to attack Congress. EC should stay unbiased", said a Congress delegation led by Ashok Gehlot at the EC office in Delhi.

His modern outlook, his ability to carry with him party leaders and members across ranks and cadres, his grassroots connect with the people would all combine to lead the Congress to victory in the Lok Sabha, said the 75-year-old chief minister. Over 90 per cent colleges were privatised, hospital bills increased, and small traders vanished post-demonetisation and "Gabbar Singh Tax" (GST).

In the run-up to Gujarat elections, a war of words broke out between BJP and Congress over Rahul Gandhi's interview to a local Gujarati channel. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said the Election Commission should act following these interviews. On his visits to temples across the poll bound state, he said he did not need BJP's permission to visit temples."Is there a ban on visiting temples?"

This election is not about Modi, not about me but about the people of Gujarat, he added. It will be formed on the basis of what the people of Gujarat want. We will abolish contract labour and fixed pay system in Gujarat.

Manmohan Singh went on: "I sincerely hope that the Prime Minister will show the maturity and gravitas expected of the high office he holds instead of concentrating his energy exclusively on erroneously conceived brownie points".

On repeated accusation of Modi on him and the Congress, Rahul said he wouldn't make any derogatory comment on the PM or the BJP. "At the same time Modiji's remark on former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too was not acceptable", he said.

Congress president-elect Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday made a strong pitch for 33% reservation for women in politics.
