Israeli army destroys incomplete tunnel from Gaza

On October 30, Israel blew up an Islamic Jihad attack tunnel that stretched from Gaza under the border into Israel.

Eyewitnesses identified the men as members of the Islamic Jihad militant group, reports Reuters.

The incident comes amid ongoing protests in the occupied West Bank, occupied East Jerusalem and besieged Gaza over US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Shortly afterward, Israel responded with tank fire and air strikes targeting positions of Hamas.

Diggers are seen near the area where the Israeli forces said a "significant" cross-border attack tunnel from the Gaza Strip, which was being dug by the enclave's dominant Islamist group, Hamas, was destroyed, near Israel's border with the Gaza Strip December 10, 2017. The Israeli military had no immediate comment. It was the first rocket fire since Friday evening, which triggered repeated Israeli strikes throughout that night and into Saturday in which two members of Hamas's military wing were killed.

Israeli planes and tanks shelled the Palestinian territory on Monday after the rocket strike, in what was the latest in a series of cross-border exchanges that have left at least four Palestinians dead.

"The IDF holds Hamas responsible for these aggressive acts originating from the Gaza Strip".

Residents also report hearing IDF artillery shelling the Beit Hanoun area of Gaza in response.

"The IDF (Israel Defence Forces) will continue to discover, expose and demolish these terror tunnels", he said.

"The enemy will pay the price for breaking the rules of engagement with the resistance in Gaza", Hamas' Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades said in a statement on Sunday.
