Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 Crystal Palace: Son Heung-min scores victor

South Korean forward Son Heung Min's 64th-minute victor was a well-executed finish - quite out of keeping with the rest of his performance and that of his team.

Tottenham were without Dele Alli, scorer of two goals in the 3-1 victory over Real, while keeper Hugo Lloris and his deputy Michel Vorm were both unable to start, handing a first appearance to Argentina's Gazzaniga.

Mauricio Pochettino's side, fresh from beating European champions Real Madrid in midweek, found Palace a hard nut to crack at Wembley and could have been behind before Son curled in the victor midway through the second half.

I can't ask much more of what the players are giving for us.

He told BT Sport: "I was nervous for the first three seconds, and after that you get the atmosphere".

Rock-bottom Palace created by far the better chances, but found surprise Spurs debutant Paulo Gazzaniga in inspired form.

"No point in beating Real Madrid on Wednesday if you can't win at home at the weekend", Tottenham defender Eric Dier said.

The Argentine was finally backed up in the 64th minute as Spurs poured forward, Palace's stretched backline clearing twice but a third fell to Son on the edge of the area and the Korean blasted past Julian Speroni with his left foot.

Substitute goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga made three great saves while Palace's Wilfried Zaha missed an open goal when the game was at 0-0.

Son could have made the game safe in the final 10 minutes but dragged his shot wide when well-placed but it mattered little.

"At the other end I thought we had quite a few moments of our own so it's a bitter blow to lose the game 1-0".
