Matt Duchene traded to Senators in long-awaited blockbuster deal

Nashville has obtained Kyle Turris in a three-way deal that includes Ottawa and Colorado.

The Avalanche and Senators announced the trades after Duchene was pulled out of Colorados game at the Islanders midway through the first period. Duchene's first National Hockey League game was played the night Sakic's iconic number 19 jersey was raised to the rafters and in a cruel twist of fate, Sakic is the man who ultimately pulled the trigger on ending Duchene's career in Colorado. Rantanen, who registered 20 goals as a rookie last season, shares the scoring lead on the Avalanche with Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Tyson Barrie with 12 points. Colorado gets prospects Samuel Girardi and Vladislav Kamenev and a 2018 second-round pick from Nashville, and prospect Shane Bowers, goalie Andrew Hammond and a 2018 first- and 2019 third-rounder from Ottawa.

Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic had been trying to move Duchene since the trade deadline last season.

Duchene is coming off a disappointing season on a team where just about every player struggled.

The trade caps a long period of rumors and speculation surrounding Duchene, who has been on the block for months as the Avalanche looked to rebuild by dealing the nine-year veteran whose contract expires at the end of next season.

Bowers, 18, was Ottawa's first selection (first round, 28th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft. Kamenev, 21, was a 2014 second-round pick by the Predators and was playing for Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL and will likely head to San Antonio.

Duchene has scored 4 goals and 6 assists in 13 games played this season.

Hammond, 29, has spent the season with the AHL Belleville Senators and has a 2.21 goals-against average and a.925 save percentage.
