Malcolm Young, guitarist and founding member of AC/DC, dies at 64

Young and Linda were married for almost four decades after reportedly tying the knot in 1979.

The group AC/DC has lost one of its founders.

"With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band", a statement from AC/DC read. Young left this mortal coil this week at the too-young age of 64, but man did Malcolm pack some seriously inspired and singular rock and roll into his decades.

AC/DC - which was also co-founded by Malcolm's younger brother Angus - confirmed the sad news in a Facebook post uploaded to the site shortly after Malcolm's passing, in which they did not disclose the star's cause of death.

"His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed", he wrote. He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.

George Young, another brother to Malcolm and Angus, died on October 23 at age 70. Angus issued a separate statement of his own.

"It is with deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of Malcolm Young, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother", the family said in a statement.

"He was a fantastic songwriter and he had a great work ethic too", Slash told Rolling Stone on Saturday. He was the band's producer. "I toured with AC/DC on their "Stiff Upper Lip" tour. I am losing it that Malcolm is gone", Megadeth's Dave Mustaine wrote. They're in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland and Angus' schoolboy costume has even spent time in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Their legacy as one of the most popular rock bands in history has been cemented by tracks such as 'Highway to Hell, ' 'Back in Black, ' 'You Shook Me All Night Long, ' and 'Thunderstruck'.

Malcolm is survived by his wife O'Linda, children Cara and Ross, three grandchildren, a sister and a brother, the band said.
