Lady Bird Earns Highest Rotten Tomatoes Score Since Toy Story 2

Lady Bird's coming of age is not new to cinema, yet Gerwig's version is light, fresh and modern, despite being set in 2002.

With 169 "Fresh" reviews and 0 "Rotten" reviews, Lady Bird has officially broken the review aggregator website's record for the best-reviewed movie.

Only two other films in the websites history have managed to achieve a 100 per cent positive score with over 100 reviews - 2008 documentary Man on Wire, and Isabelle Hupperts drama Things to Come past year.

This is completely wonderful and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird.

Pixar's "Toy Story 2" held the previous record with a 100 percent approval rating through all 163 reviews on the site. It stars Saoirse Ronan, who was Best Actress-nominated just two years ago for Brooklyn, navigating late adolescence in post-9/11 Sactown, Calif. That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true. For perspective, Citizen Kane, a film often mentioned in Greatest of All Time lists, is also at 100%, but with only 75 reviews. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully. Right now we're celebrating the moment, and Gerwig herself is singing. "We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible".

Released by indie film studios A24 (Moonlight) earlier this month, Lady Bird only went from a limited release to wider distribution this past weekend, and the film has so far pulled in $10.7 million in domestic theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. Lady Bird an exceptional directorial debut, with inspired performances by Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf, and deserves all the acclaim it's getting.
