Another 12 students charged in Penn State frat death

The charges - which include involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and hazing - are the result of an investigation into surveillance video from the Beta Theta Pi fraternity house basement that a fraternity member is accused of deleting, Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said at a press conference.

The footage was deleted by a former member of Beta Theta Pi two days after Piazza's death, according to detective David Scicchitano.

Police had reportedly been previously led to believe the cameras in the basement were not functioning, the CDT previously reported, until testimony in August revealed the belief that some video evidence had been deleted and could possibly be recovered.

The restored video shows a hazing ritual involving beer in the basement and brothers giving pledges wine, beer and vodka, according to the district attorney's office.

Investigators say Piazza was forced to intake at least 18 drinks in 90 minutes as part of a hazing ritual carried out by the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Included in the charges were three misdemeanors against Braxton Becker, the fraternity brother she accused of deleting the video February 6 right in front of police officers who had shown up to retrieve it.

Ryan Burke, Bo Han Sang, Joshua Kurczewski, Aiden O'Brien and Jonathan Kanzler have been charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter.

Piazza died of a fractured skull and other injuries two days after drinking a unsafe amount of alcohol at a pledge ceremony and falling down basement stairs.

Brian Gelb, who was charged with six counts of hazing, five counts of furnishing alcohol, and five counts of unlawful acts. "We all have proof of what happened on tape".

Piazza's father, Jim Piazza, made a brief prepared statement in which he thanked the district attorney and State College police for their continued efforts in seeking justice for his son. The other charges, totaling almost 900, included aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, hazing, and providing alcohol to minors. Involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangering another person, 10 counts of hazing, eight counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and eight counts of unlawful acts relative to liquor.

Donald Prior, who was charged with four counts of hazing, three counts of furnishing and three counts of unlawful acts.

"We're making holiday plans without our son Tim because of your actions", he said. Luke Visser Furnishing Alcohol to Minors, 18 Pa.C.S. 6310.1 (11 counts) Unlawful Acts Relative to Liquor, 47 P.S. 4-493 (11 counts) 2.

Mike Fernandez, who was charged with two counts each of hazing, furnishing and unlawful acts.

Gary Dibileo, faces five counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and five counts of unlawful acts. "We would be anxiously awaiting Tim's return home for Thanksgiving break on Friday".

His death prompted calls to change Greek culture and stop hazing and alcohol abuse on campuses nationally, and drove an attempt to overhaul fraternity rules at the flagship state campus, which banned the chapter and implemented stricter rules on parties and greater oversight of the social groups.
