The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition provides customers with access to popular content from multiple providers, including Amazon Prime Video.

Amazon's Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, a streaming media player, is now available in over 100 countries - including South Africa. Amazon's main Fire TV Stick Basic page proudly proclaims "this item ships to Sydney, Australia" when I view it. However, the USA version comes with an Alexa remote that can operate with voice commands, while the Basic Edition just has a basic remote. The original Fire Stick TV was launched in 2014 as a US-only product, while the second-generation model also released in a handful of European countries. Now, they can watch Prime Video on the big screen with the Amazon Fire TV Stick.

The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is a streaming media dongle that offers a no non-sense way to access movies, TV shows, apps and games on your TV. Customers can set their default language to Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German, or English.

The objective of the new streaming stick is to provide Amazon's customers with an affordable way to start streaming content from Prime Video, which was also launched globally a year ago. It can also better compete with Google Chromecast, which lacks support for Prime Video streaming.

Fire TV Stick Basic Edition costs $49.99 CAD in Canada, which is a no-brainer to connect all of your TVs to Prime Video, YouTube and more. It's only natural that the Fire TV Stick device becomes readily available in more regions. Alexa-enabled devices aren't available yet in many parts of the world which is the reason why Amazon may have chose to not include it on the Basic Edition, as pointed out by TechCrunch.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition does come with a "basic" dedicated remote, 720p and 1080p output resolution at up to 60fps, a quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 802.11ac Wi-Fi and, of course, HDMI functionality. This may explain why it costs more than the regular version of the Fire TV Stick, which now sells for $39.99.
