UFC 216, Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee

UFC 216 was held last night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ferguson smartly banked on the belief that the Lee would begin to fatigue as the fight wore on, after needing to drop significant weight for Friday's weigh-in. After almost submitting a fading Lee (16-3) in Round 3 with an armbar, Ferguson locked in a triangle choke to force the tap at 4:02.

"We didn't specifically talk about it, but yeah we talked about it kinda", White said.

"I wanted him to come at me, use all that aggression and leave no energy for that submission".

Afterwards, Ferguson had a simple and profane message for lightweight champ Conor McGregor.

An emotional Lee paid tribute to his opponent after the bout. "I don't know if you guys talked to him yet, his arm can't be feeling too good, but (he's) a stud and I meant no disrespect". Whatever I'm going through doesn't take away from what he did.

Demetrious Johnson now has sole possession of the UFC's most prestigious record - most consecutive title defenses - and he did it with flare. Plus, it doesn't sound like McGregor is in any kind of hurry to fight again. Johnson told TSN in terms of his aspirations for how many consecutive title defences he hopes to achieve.

One man who wants it to happen as soon as it can be arranged is Ferguson, who sent out a warning to the Irish superstar that his time as champion is coming to a close, one way or another.

"I'm not in the business of taking hits and concussions".

The UFC awarded the Fight of the Night bonus to Bobby Green and Lando Vannata for their incredible three round fight that resulted in a draw and Performance of the Night bonuses to Johnson and John Moraga, both flyweights who secured spectacular finishes against Borg and Magomed Bibulatov respectively.

Las Vegas fighter Evan Dunham entered the octagon with a special "Vegas Strong" flag, while all the fighters on the card wore specially-made "Vegas Strong" t-shirts for their respective entrances.

At the post-fight press conference UFC president Dana White was asked if he had spoken to McGregor about his future plans - and White confirmed he had.
