Nintendo Ups Profit Outlook On Robust Switch Sales

Whichever way you look at it, Nintendo is having a fantastic year, and with demand so high every one of those 16 million+ Switch consoles will sell.

Sony's PlayStation 4 debuted in North America on November 15, 2013, internationally on November 29, and in Japan on February 22, 2014, and sold 7 million units of 7.5 million the company had shipped by April 2014, five and a half months into its lifecycle. Profit was 51bn yen (£334m). The company has sold 7.6 million units in its life. Amid outsized demand from makers of smartphones and electrified vehicles, the company is seeing "intermittent shortages of various parts", even transistors and other commodity-grade components, said a Nintendo procurement executive.

Speaking of games, all of the company's major first party exclusives have gone on to sell over 1 million copies.

"We've boosted Switch production to meet strong demand as it was hard for customers to buy the consoles at retail stores." .

Not only can the handheld console be brought outdoors, the removable controllers allow two people to play.

The Switch is running circles around the Wii U.

We can now all stop wondering why Nintendo would not publicly announce such a feature though, as Fils-Aime said that the addition of GameCube controller support to the Nintendo Switch "was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers". The prediction of Switch sales has also gone up to 14 million, which would beat the lifetime sales of its predecessor, the WiiU.

Its Super Mario Odyssey released last week is also expected to increase sales for the second half, the firm said.

Nintendo's past struggles in the gaming market had been due to users flocking towards new mobile-based games, rather than consoles.

The Switch is doing so well, in fact, that Nintendo has revised its fiscal year forecast again.
