Kawhi Leonard to miss Spurs' regular-season opener, report says

The Spurs will complete their preseason schedule Friday with All-NBA forward Kawhi Leonard having missed every game and with no timeline for his return.

While Gay and Mills are certainly not Leonard and Parker, the Spurs have shown the ability to still win games under head coach Gregg Popovich.

"He won't be available", Popovich said before the Spurs' preseason finale against Houston, reports the San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald. While Leonard suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Finals, he is now rehabilitating tendinopathy in his left quadriceps. LaMarcus Aldridge had 26 points and 10 rebounds as the Spurs beat the Rockets 106-97.

Popovich said there remains no timetable for Leonard's return, even beyond Wednesday's opener. "I try not to qualify it". Parker suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon during the Western Conference semi-finals against the Houston Rockets in May.

Kawhi Leonard makes an appearance after the Spurs' Silver and Black intrasquad scrimmage at the AT&T Center on September 30, 2017.

Leonard steadily developed into one of the league's best players after the Spurs acquired him in a 2011 draft-night trade with the Indiana Pacers.
