Ford is recalling 1.3 million F-150 and Super Duty trucks because of an issue that could allow a door to open while driving in certain conditions.

The No.2 USA automaker said the safety recall is due to a frozen door latch or a bent or kinked actuation cable in the affected vehicles, that may result in a door not opening or closing.

Ford is issuing a recall for more than a million F-Series pickups sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Dealers are to install the water shields and make repairs, if needed, for free.

Even if customers are able to open and close the door, that latch may not fully engage, meaning the door could fling open while driving, Ford warned. The vehicles affected include both the F-series and the brand's Super Duty vehicles in North America.

Ford says it has no reports of accidents or injuries associated with the problem.

Through the first nine months of 2017 the Ford F-Series was the top-selling vehicle in the US with sales of more than 658,636 trucks, a 10.6 percent jump compared with the same period a year ago, according to industry research firm Autodata Corp. Last September, Ford recalled 211,000 cars in North America due to a problem with side door latches that that the company said is unrelated to this recall, CNBC reported.

Sales jumped 5.2 percent to the tune of 820,799 trucks sold in 2016.
