That camera shot caught coach Ariel Prieto wearing a smart watch - a device Major League Baseball has banned from the dugouts.

"All 30 clubs have been notified that future violations of this type will be subject to more serious sanctions, including the possible loss of draft picks", Manfred said in a statement at the time.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Thursday that Prieto was seen wearing an electronic watch on his wrist in a picture. Major League Baseball revealed last month that the Red Sox had used the watches to steal signs from New York Yankees catchers during games between the rivals this season.

Lovullo said the Diamondbacks are cooperating with the league.

"It was just an honest mistake", Lovullo said. "And in no way did it impact the game, and in no way is it going to impact the game (Friday)". It's just not something that we do or believe in.

Arizona beat Colorado, 11-8, on Wednesday in Phoenix.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS after winning their wild card matchup against the Colorado Rockies.

That could be part of the reason why Dodgers manager Dave Roberts did not sound bothered by the report Thursday. Electronic devices that are internet-capable are prohibited as a matter of course, however, and any laptops or tablets used in a dugout must have connectivity disabled. "I know it's a rule, I know I missed that, but if they want to investigate, they can have it".

In the Yankees-Red Sox case, Brian Cashman had sent the commissioner - among other things - video that the Yanks claimed showed the Red Sox using the electronic watch to help quicken how fast they could do the relay of signs that would ultimately end up with the hitter potentially knowing what pitch was coming.
