Suspected US drone strike kills at least three in Pakistan

A USA drone strike on Friday killed three suspected militants in a compound in Pakistan's northwestern tribal area of Kurram, officials said.

"The strike took place near the border with Afghanistan", said Basir Khan, the senior official in the Kurram agency agency in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.

A suicide bomber killed three people Wednesday - the third day of the tournament - outside the cricket stadium. We agree to the candid observation of the Ambassador that Afghanistan must ensure its soil is not used by TTP against Pakistan and similarly Pakistan must ensure its soil is not used by the Haqqani network against Afghanistan.

The nature of the blast is yet to be ascertained, the FC officials said.

A Taliban commander confirmed that Mohib was part of the Afghan Taliban. "This is just a propaganda of the Western media", he said.

If confirmed, it would be the first USA drone strike on Pakistan since President Donald Trump announced his new strategy for Afghanistan last month.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said the United States will hand over six helicopters to the Afghan national defense and security forces in the coming two weeks.

He did not elaborate further in this regard but added that the authorities of the Afghan army corps across the country have also been increased.

USA officials have urged the neighboring Pakistani government to crack down on Haqqani militants operating in Pakistan. The US is believed to have ordered at least two other drone attacks this year. The Trump administration in August infuriated Pakistan when it accused Islamabad of providing extremists safe haven and threatened to withhold military aid.

Cricket fans in Afghanistan have a record number of foreign players to watch in the ongoing Shpageeza Cricket League despite security concerns.
