PM Modi guilty of insulting India on foreign soil, says Congress

The People of India have given a historic mandate in favour of PM Modi, and that Mr Gandhi's party, largely due to their dynastic politics, was reduced to new low.

Gandhi also spoke about "ahimsa" or non-violence as the greatest strength of India.

Soon after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of massively opening up space for the terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that the absence of peace in the Valley was a cumulative outcome of the misrule of the grand old party beginning with the infamous "Nehruvian blunders".

She said Rahul is a failed politician and he would not get support anywhere in the world. "[The] fact that he [Rahul Gandhi] said that dynasts and dynasties is the very fulcrum of India in itself is an anomaly", Irani said in response to Gandhi saying that dynasty politics was part of India.

In a brief media interaction, Irani said: "A failed dynastic political party's leader spoke out".

"But the way our party works, we have an organisational election process that decides that, and that process is now ongoing".

She also said that people in India were not really interested in listening to Rahul Gandhi and he has no choice but to go overseas to address a gathering.

Rahul Gandhi will be beginning his two-week trip to the U.S. with an address at the University of California, Berkeley, on Monday. "Don't go after me", he said responding to a question. "The fact that Rahul Gandhi chose to belittle the PM is not surprising, it is expected. People [are] being lynched because they are Dalits, Muslims killed on suspicion of carrying beef - This is new in India and damages India very badly", he said. "That decision is something the Congress party would take at an appropriate time".

Often called out, especially by the BJP, for his poor oratory skills and for being the torchbearer of dynastic politics, Gandhi nearly pleaded guilty on both counts and even asserted that Modi was a "much better communicator" than him. The Congress leader also raised issues like lynching and polarisation during his speech. "The Vice President, born in the family of a farmer after years of activism, is being blessed with leading the nation as the Vice President", she said.

He praised the concept of Make in India, but added that the orientation of the scheme needed to be towards elevating the small and medium-sized businesses and that is what he would do if he were in charge. This confession made by Rahul Gandhi is something for the Congress to deal with. The Congress vice president's assertion that dynasty is a reality in all spheres of India-be it politics, films or industry-has also been criticised by the BJP while he was also trolled on Twitter for these remarks.
