Feels great to win again, says Wozniacki in lucky No 7

Although Wozniacki only broke through once thus far in 2017, she has won at least a title in each year since 2008.

Wozniacki became the fourth player to win the Pan Pacific title three times or more, following in the footsteps of Gabriela Sabatini (three times), Martina Hingis (five) and Lindsay Davenport (four).

"It was my seventh final this year and obviously after a while it gets harder and harder", said Wozniacki.

"I've been putting myself in a position to win all year". "But I went out there and I just stayed focused and stayed aggressive, especially in the beginning, and then I played my way".

"The court suits my game".

Playing in her first tournament since earning the WTA's top ranking, Wimbledon champion Muguruza had 29 unforced errors to drop the final 10 games of the match.

The Russian challenged Wozniacki more in the second set.

Wozniacki, who destroyed world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals, never gave Pavlyuchenkova a chance in their first meeting since 2012.

Pavlyuchenkova rallied from being down 3-0 in the final set to beat former No. 1 Angelique Kerber 6-0, 6-7 (4), 6-4.

"I felt I was a bit unlucky and really believe if I had turned those points round and won the games, it may have been a different match".

"It's disappointing to lose no matter which round it is, even more disappointing in the final". On the other side, keeping up the momentum from the previous set, Kerber raced to a quick 3-0 lead only to see her work reduced to nothing due to a odd turnaround of the match. "I didn't have so much energy left".

The World No.6 defending champion defeated her Russian rival, World No.23, with a score of 6-0, 7-5 in one hour and 13 minutes, reports Efe.

"I'm really happy to win my second title here and in my career".

Pavluchenkova's strength lies in her ability to hit with blistering pace off both sides.
