Barcelona lead Chelsea and Tottenham in Riyad Mahrez race

Chelsea were heavily linked with a move for winger Riyad Mahrez on deadline day, but it seems that the player is not wanted at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old, now on global duty, has won 54 worldwide caps with 10 trophies from spells in the Austrian, Swiss and Ukrainian leagues with Austria Vienna, Basle and Dynamo Kiev respectively.

Barcelona suffered a huge blow after they lost Neymar to PSG, but things have started looking up for them in the last few days.

It is unclear what is actually going on here, but in a few hours, we will know for sure one way or another.

Earlier today, Leicester City claimed that they had received no bids for Mahrez, but if beIN's report is true then Chelsea have remedied that situation, and with emphasis.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Thursday that United has "no concrete interest" in Mahrez, the creative lynchpin in Leicester's astonishing Premier League title triumph in 2016-17.

Roma were the only club to make a serious bid for the former PFA Player of the Year, but the Italian club's £32m approach fell well short of Leicester's valuation.

A statement from the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) said Mahrez, preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Zambia, had been allowed to travel back to Europe.

Barcelona looked to be heading the race for him, but Chelsea are expected to complete the £45m signing before the transfer window closes later on Thursday.
