Harry, interviewed for an ITV documentary about his mother, said: "There's not a day that William and I don't wish that she was. still around".

William and Harry stopped to admire the public's makeshift memorial, smiling while pointing at photos of their mother and reading fans' messages from around the world.

During their trip to the palace today, William and Harry were joined by the Duchess of Cambridge to tour the White Garden, which was planted in Diana's memory.

She has visited Diana's former home nearly every year since the princess's death on August 31, 1997.

The White Garden has been inspired by memories of the Princess' life, style and image, such as her white "Elvis" Catherine Walker dress and features thousands of white flowers such as white roses, scented narcissi and forget-me-nots around the already existing Sunken Garden.

Princes William and Harry have paid a quiet tribute to their mother Princess Diana, a day before the 20th anniversary of her death that has reignited interest in one of the world's most famous women.

The temporary tribute will stay open to visitors until the end of the year.

Her friend, John Loughrey, wearing a union jack shirt with matching hat, said he "cried all through the night" upon hearing the news of Diana's death.

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry depart after viewing tributes to Diana. It's a widely known fact that the Prince wasn't faithful to Princess Diana during their marriage.

The royals invited them so they could hear about the impact of their mother's work, according to the official Kensington Palace Twitter account.

"When you have something so traumatic as the death of your mother when you're 15, it will either make or break you", William said in the "Diana, 7 Days" BBC documentary.

They also met with representatives from charities supported by the Princess of Wales. "And she would stop and she would have a chat with the gardeners and comment on all their hard work".

Diana was killed along with Dodi Fayed, her wealthy Egyptian film producer boyfriend of two months, and his drink-impaired, speeding driver Henri Paul, who was trying to evade paparazzi photographers.
