Amy Schumer and Steve Martin are teaming up for laughs " on Broadway.

The show is about two California couples getting together for dinner and to watch a meteor shower, and the ensuing chaos and marital discord that then follow.

The show has run previously in San Diego and New Haven, but the addition of Schumer and Key gave it the star-power it needed to push it through to NY.

Schumer will be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Laura Benanti and Alan Tudyk (Too-diek).

The Trainwreck actress wrote: '#SteveMartin wrote a hilarious play @MeteorShowerBwy and I get to do it with @keeganmic @laurabenanti @alantudyk'. Schumer and Alan Tudyk will play Corky and Norm, a California couple who invite Tony Award victor Laura Benanti and Keegan-Michael Key's Laura and Gerald over for dinner and stargazing one night.

The Hollywood actor, writer and producer told The New York Times he recruited 36-year-old Schumer by approaching her at a party at her house and asking her to read the script.

Comedy icon Martin, who turns 72 on August 14, was nominated for Tony Awards for the book and the music of the 2016 musical "Bright Star".

Schumer wrote on Instagram: "I got to do a Steve Martin play in college and have loved him since I saw him as the waiter in the Muppet movie".

Jerry Zaks will direct the play, which will begin previews on 1 November (17) at the Booth Theatre, ahead of a 29 November (17) launch.

The play had its world premiere in San Diego previous year at the Old Globe theater, where the cast included The Office's Jenna Fischer, along with Greg Germann, Josh Stamberg, and Alex Henrikson.

Amy plays Renee Barrett In I Feel Pretty, a woman whose head injury leads her to believe a spell was cast on her to make her look incredibly lovely.
