Law enforcement rally in Brooklyn for Colin Kaepernick

"As members of law enforcement, we can confirm that the issues he is saying exist in policing, and throughout the criminal justice system, indeed exist", Sergeant Edwin Raymond said of Kaepernick in a piece by Vivian Wang of the New York Times.

Kaepernick, the former starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, became a controversial figure a year ago after he refused to stand for the national anthem in what he called a protest against oppression of people of color.

His supporters defended him Saturday.

- The NAACP has called for a boycott of the NFL.

"There will be no football in the state of Georgia if Colin Kaepernick is not on a training camp roster and given an opportunity to pursue his career", Gerald Griggs, spokesperson for Atlanta's National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told Fox News.

"We want to speak up because we don't think Colin Kaepernick took a knee against police officers". It is nationwide. The NAACP says they are planning to send a strong message to not only commissioner Rodger Goodell, but National Football League owners like Arthur Blank.

"Around 80 officers gathered at Brooklyn Bridge Park wearing black t-shirts with "#IMWITHKAP" emblazoned across the front. Frank Serpico, a former officer who exposed corruption in the New York Police Department in the 1970s, attended. In sports, if you're better than anyone else, you play.

Trying to force owners to sign a subpar player because the NAACP says so is just plain weird. In San Francisco, the head of the Santa Clara police union threatened to stop working 49ers home games unless the team took action against Kaepernick. "That's the thing you're not allowed to do in our sporting culture and most of our popular culture unless you're so over-the-top talented that they need you for winning".
