Disney World installs permanent memorial to boy killed by alligator

It was placed along the shorelines where the tragic incident occurred more than a year ago.

"In recognition of National Lighthouse Day, please see the lighthouse created to honor our loving boy Lane", the Lane Thomas Foundation posted to their Facebook page on Monday.

His father, Matt Graves, tried to free his son from the alligator but he was unsuccessful in his attempt. The gold and blue statue features a plaque that reads, "Presented to the Lane Thomas Foundation".

The Lane Thomas Foundation is dedicated to providing financial support for non-medical expenses to families with children in need of life-saving organ transplants at Omaha healthcare facilities.

Lane's body was found "intact" 16 hours later.

His family set up the Lane Thomas Foundation in honor of the boy, who would've turned 3 that September.

The Graves family said they find solace in Disney's lighthouse. That's when an alligator snatched and drowned the toddler in a vicious, predatory attack.

All guests who visit Disney's Grand Floridian Resort can walk along the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon and see it.

The gold and blue lighthouse with two blue stars on it stands near the Seven Seas Lagoon beach outside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, where Lane Graves was attacked previous year.

Though alligators typically avoid humans, an August 2016 report from the state commission concluded that because Lane was bent over at the time of the attack, the animal may have believed he was smaller prey, such as a raccoon, opossum or armadillo.
